ABOUT OUR CLUB

Membership:

We currently have 76 members of the club, including life, associate and social members.
Membership details and forms can be obtained by emailing the secretary from the 'Contact Us' Page.

For further details of what we have to offer, or just to express an interest in finding out more about our club, why not complete and submit our
'EXPRESSION OF INTEREST' Form?   Click HERE to access this form directly.

Bowling Season:

Our outdoor season opens in April each year and finishes at the end of September. Many club members play indoors in the winter months - at Elmbridge Leisure Centre or at other venues slightly further away.

Matches:

As well as playing in league matches we have friendly fixtures against many of our neighbouring clubs.

The majority of our matches are with mixed teams, but we do have a number of separate ladies and gents fixtures. We also organise a number of internal competitions each year, and host an ANNUAL FOURS TOURNAMENT for visiting teams of 4 from other clubs. Details of this, together with an ENTRY FORM for interested bowlers, can be found on our 'NOTICEBOARD' web page. Click HERE to go there directly.

Coaching:

We are actively seeking new members. Arrangements can be made to introduce newcomers to the game and the club at any convenient time.
We also have qualified coaches who will give free coaching from 5.30 every Tuesday evening during the outdoor season when we hold our Club Night.

Basic Requirements:

Normally you will need a pair of flat-soled, heel-less shoes, and, of course a set of bowls. Don't worry if you don't wish to go to the expense of providing these for yourself until you have made up your mind whether or not bowls is for you. We can make these available for practice sessions.

More details on our normal dress code for club matches and competitions can be found by clicking on the bowler icon to the right --->>> Icon

Matches can still continue when it is raining. Obviously very heavy rain can stop play, but, if it is not too heavy, we do often continue when the rain starts. For this eventuality we have wet-weather clothing - usually white waterproofed top and hat.

Facilities:

We have a pleasant clubhouse adjacent to the green, with changing facilities for men and ladies, a kitchen, and a well-stocked licensed bar.

The bar is open whenever the club itself is open, and you will find that the charges for drinks are extremely reasonable.

Club Night:

Tuesday evening is our Club Night when new members are particularly welcome. Members normally play in ad hoc roll-up games or just watch from the terrace over a chat and a drink. The evening usually ends with a weekly barbecue on the clubhouse terrace.

Social Activities:

We plan an active social life which you can read more about on our 'Social Events' Page. (Click HERE to go there directly).

WHY BOWLS IS GOOD FOR YOU

What we can offer . . .

Home Match

  1.   Low-level exercise in sunshine and fresh air - in bracing and inclement weather as well from time to time!!!

  2.   An attractive location in a tranquil setting, yet in the heart (not The Heart) of Walton-on-Thames.

  3.   A stimulating and challenging outdoor activity, both mentally and physically.

  4.   Humour and camaraderie with new friends - we are all well worth meeting!

  5.   Participants can be of ANY AGE - you can't start too young, and you are never too old.

  6.   Participation in our many social events - throughout the winter months as well as during the outdoor bowling season.

  7.   Enjoyment of our Private Club house with its kitchen, flourishing bar, library, indoor lounge and covered verandah area for watching the bowling and for socialising.

  8.   You will become part of one of the hundreds of Bowling Clubs in the United Kingdom and the thousands more around the world.

  9.   If you are a serious sportsman or woman we can also meet your needs. You can participate at any level of the sport. There are many levels of competition - within the club and at county and national level. You will be able to participate at just whichever level you choose.

  10.   Physical disability is not normally a bar to playing bowls. We can advise on the possible suitability of the game for anyone interested.

  11.   It is not likely to be long after your first few lessons that you will be able to enjoy participating in friendly roll-up games and you can soon be enjoying our friendly matches against other clubs as well as taking part in our internal club competitions.

  12.   You will find that, compared with many other sports, the cost of lawn bowling is low - and for a lifetime of enjoyment. A set of four bowls costs about the same as a good tennis racket or one of the better golf clubs and will last as long as you want it to. The club often has some second hand bowls for sale.

  13.   For unlimited bowling and use of all the club facilities, the annual club subscription payable by members is based on the cost of maintaining the green and clubhouse and is kept to a minimum. You will find that our own fee compares very favourably with that of other sporting and social activities.
